School Counselling Ltd started out working in schools counselling children. During our time in schools we identified there was a need to support staff and families in this process and have since gone to integrate this into our work. This has proven to be very successful with schools, teachers, support staff and families

Counselling Students in School


School Counselling Ltd Care provides emotional and therapeutic support for students in school.

We are providing support to students in 10 different school settings. This ranges from primary schools to secondary schools and pupil referral units.

We work with the staff in selecting the students that are referred to counselling and students have the opportunity to self refer.

Students come along to counselling for a variety of reasons, bereavement, anxiety, peer pressure, depression, family breakdown, bullying, neglect, trauma, career opportunities, relationships, self harming, eating disorders (the list is not exhausted) we offer a weekly or fortnightly sessions for students, or sometimes a one off session, we work with the school and the students to look at what is required.

The students we work with range from 4 years to 18 years. Our approach will vary depending on the needs of the students. This can include art therapy, drawing, painting making etc or talking therapy.

Staff Counselling

Providing counselling for staff has proven to be very successful in many different ways. The feedback from staff has been that it has given them a sense of feeling valued by their employees and a space where they feel safe to talk about any issues they have at work or home, without fear of being judge or information being fed back. This has enabled staff to continue working as they have felt emotionally supported and given them the tools to help cope with the challenges they face. Counselling for staff is based in a different setting to the school.


Group work with students has increased over the years; this is mainly focused around friendships and transition into secondary school. We provide 6 to 8 sessions, though this can vary. It gives each student an opportunity to have a voice in space where they feel heard. We look at working together to achieve the best possible outcome for all the students. Sometimes this can be that the students agree in the sessions not to spend time together outside the session, the aim is not to make students be friends, to give them the tools to help them establish what works best within the group to cause less conflict and upset. Transition groups looks at the students needs to transfer to secondary school successfully, by sharing concerns and questions within the group and giving them some valuable life skills for the future.

Supervision for Support Staff

Supervision is different from counselling. It is based in schools for staff to attend during their working day. We offer them consultation on students and their families providing guidance on best practices aligned with directives from BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). Some staff can find the demands of some families and students emotionally challenging. Supervision has proven to be successful in the schools where it is currently being practiced, staff feel they have a regular slot where they feel supported and can reflect and process their concerns and challenges.

Supervision is predominately fortnightly or monthly, therefore making it more manageable for staff and school.
