WHAT IS CO-PARENTING

Co-parenting support provides a structured and supportive space for parents who are no longer together to work through the practical and emotional challenges of parenting separately.

It is not about deciding who is right or wrong.

Instead, we look at what is making co-parenting difficult and explore ways to improve communication, reduce unnecessary conflict and establish clear arrangements that work for your children.

Drawing on my experience as a counsellor, psychotherapist and qualified family mediator, I can help you look at both the emotional impact of separation and the practical realities of parenting after separation.

How can co-parenting support help?

Sessions can help you to:

  • Improve communication between parents
  • Reduce arguments and unnecessary conflict
  • Understand how separation may be affecting your children
  • Keep conversations focused on the needs of your children
  • Establish clearer boundaries between parenting and the previous relationship
  • Manage differences in parenting styles
  • Deal with difficult conversations more constructively
  • Agree practical arrangements for your children
  • Develop a Parenting Plan
  • Establish arrangements for holidays, birthdays and special occasions
  • Agree arrangements around school, activities and appointments
  • Improve communication about changes to arrangements
  • Consider how new partners and extended family may fit into your children’s lives
  • Develop strategies for managing future disagreements

Creating a Parenting Plan

A Parenting Plan can provide children and parents with greater clarity and consistency following separation.

During our sessions, we can work together to develop a Parenting Plan that reflects your family’s individual circumstances.

This might include:

Your children’s routine

  • Where the children will stay
  • Weekday and weekend arrangements
  • School and nursery arrangements
  • Collection and drop-off arrangements
  • Homework and activities
  • Holidays and special occasions

  • School holidays
  • Christmas and other celebrations
  • Birthdays
  • Mother’s Day and Father’s Day
  • Family events
  • Holidays and travel
  • Communication

  • How parents will communicate
  • How information about the children will be shared
  • How important decisions will be discussed
  • How changes to arrangements will be managed

Your children’s wellbeing

  • Education
  • Health and medical appointments
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Friendships and social activities
  • Emotional wellbeing

A supportive and child-focused approach

Separation can bring strong emotions including anger, sadness, disappointment and uncertainty. These feelings can make communication between parents particularly difficult.

My approach is supportive, practical and focused on helping you move forward.

The aim is not to revisit the relationship or determine who was at fault.

Instead, the focus is:

“How can we move forward as parents and give our children the best possible experience of family life after separation?”
